Job summary

NHC HealthCare Smithville is seeking a Maintenance Assistant (jack or Jill of all trades) to maintain facilities, assist with grounds, and support patient care by keeping equipment and spaces in top condition.

The role requires ability to read technical manuals, follow safety regulations, and coordinate with other departments. On-call availability and teamwork are essential; a high school diploma or technical school graduate is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or graduate of a technical school.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals. Knowledge of local codes and ordinances. Knowledge of safety regulations.
• Ability to plan and carry out programs in repair or new construction and/or installation. Ability to direct others.
• Knowledge of record keeping and cost estimating.

Position Highlights

NHC HealthCare Smithville is looking for a Jack or Jill of all trades to join our team as a Maintenance Assistant! This position requires personal contact with residents, a high level of competency and efficiency in all aspects of maintenance operations. You must be able to work as part of a team and independently with minimum supervision. As a Maintenance Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Heavy duty cleaning, light grounds care, maintenance of institutional equipment.
• Keep records of work performed.
• Coordinate work with other departments so as not interrupt patient care or normal business functions.
• Able to be on call for emergencies.
• Perform or direct duties concerned with maintenance of grounds, parking lots, driveways, etc. May include gardening, landscaping, cleaning-up, snow removal, etc. (except that performed under service contract).

Qualifications

• High school graduate or graduate of a technical school.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals. Knowledge of local codes and ordinances. Knowledge of safety regulations.
• Ability to plan and carry out programs in repair or new construction and/or installation. Ability to direct others.
• Knowledge of record keeping and cost estimating.
• Knowledge of supplies and equipment used by department and the care of this equipment.
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with patients.
• H-VAC experience is preferred, but not required.
