Job summary

Spring River Rehabilitation & Care Center in Roswell, New Mexico, is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the daily maintenance and physical plant needs of our skilled nursing community.

The role involves routine repairs, preventive maintenance, room preparation, equipment upkeep, and building systems support, working closely with leadership to keep resident rooms and common areas safe, functional, and well maintained.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous maintenance, facilities, handyman, healthcare maintenance, or related experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of general building maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable working with hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, or general repairs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Complete routine maintenance and repair assignments throughout the facility.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, flooring, and general building repairs within training and ability.
  • Repair or replace fixtures, hardware, doors, locks, furniture, and other facility items as appropriate.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and work orders.
  • Troubleshoot basic maintenance concerns and report larger issues to maintenance leadership.
  • Assist with maintaining resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, offices, dining areas, and common spaces.
  • Help ensure repairs are completed safely and timely.
  • Assist with preparing resident rooms for new admissions.
  • Complete minor repairs and touch-ups in resident rooms.
  • Assist with painting, patching, fixture replacement, and general room upkeep.
  • Help maintain common areas in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance concerns that impact resident comfort or safety.
  • Respect resident belongings, privacy, and personal space while completing work.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality.
  • Complete work in resident areas with minimal disruption whenever possible.
  • Work collaboratively with Nursing, Environmental Services, Dietary, Activities, and other departments.
  • Respond professionally to maintenance concerns reported by residents or staff.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and arrive prepared for scheduled shifts.
  • Assist with additional facility maintenance projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Overview

The Maintenance Assistant supports the maintenance and physical plant operations of Spring River Rehabilitation & Care Center.

This position assists with routine repairs, preventive maintenance, facility inspections, grounds upkeep, room preparation, equipment maintenance, and general building needs.

The Maintenance Assistant works closely with maintenance and facility leadership to help ensure resident rooms, common areas, equipment, and building systems remain safe, functional, and well maintained.

This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, comfortable using tools, and willing to assist with a variety of maintenance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
  • Complete routine maintenance and repair assignments throughout the facility

  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, flooring, and general building repairs within training and ability

  • Repair or replace fixtures, hardware, doors, locks, furniture, and other facility items as appropriate

  • Respond to maintenance requests and work orders

Resident Rooms & Facility Appearance
  • Assist with preparing resident rooms for new admissions

  • Complete minor repairs and touch-ups in resident rooms

  • Assist with painting, patching, fixture replacement, and general room upkeep

  • Help maintain common areas in a clean, safe, and professional condition

  • Respond promptly to maintenance concerns that impact resident comfort or safety

  • Respect resident belongings, privacy, and personal space while completing work

Building & Equipment Support
  • Assist with monitoring facility equipment and physical plant systems

  • Support maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling, and other building systems within the responsibilities of the position

  • Assist with basic equipment repairs when appropriate

  • Report significant equipment or building-system concerns to maintenance leadership

  • Assist contractors and vendors with facility access and projects as directed

  • Maintain maintenance tools and equipment in safe working condition

Grounds & Exterior Maintenance
  • Assist with maintaining facility grounds and exterior areas

  • Remove debris and maintain sidewalks and entry areas

  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance

  • Support snow and ice removal when necessary

  • Identify exterior building, parking lot, sidewalk, lighting, or safety concerns

  • Help maintain safe and accessible entrances for residents, visitors, and employees

Resident Experience & Teamwork
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and employees

  • Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality

  • Complete work in resident areas with minimal disruption whenever possible

  • Work collaboratively with Nursing, Environmental Services, Dietary, Activities, and other departments
