Job description: Maintenance Assistant
The maintenance assistant provides a variety of standard and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of center grounds and facilities.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Works closely with and follows the directions from the maintenance director/supervisor.
- Maintains the building and grounds in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
- Maintains and repairs basic functions of the center as determined by themaintenance director/supervisor.
- Takes care of the tools and equipment.
- Makes minor repairs on handrails, windows, flooring walls, ceilings, beds,wheelchairs, geri-chairs, electrical equipment, sprinkling systems, generators, emergency lighting, fire alarms and extinguishers, changes filters on HVAC equipment, carries, lifts and stocks supplies.
- Assumes supervisor's responsibilities in his/her absence.
- Remains on call for emergencies seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
- Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Specific Educational Vocational Requirements:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
- Must have basic knowledge of wiring, plumbing andcarpentry.
- Ability to push, pull or lift weights up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to crouch, squat or stand for extended periods.
Job Skills:
- Good organizational skills.
- Agile and in good physical health.
- Ability to positively interact with personnel, customers, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
Performance Related Duties:
- Interact with customers, families, visitors, center, and Care Center Facility subsidiary personnel.
- Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
