Job description

Maintenance Assistant to work Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Responsible for assisting the Maintenance Director with minor repairs and preventive maintenance activities. In addition, the Maintenance Assistant may assist with housekeeping and laundry assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. 1. Assists with the repair or replacement of defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
  2. 2. Assists in the routine preventive maintenance to ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  3. 3. Utilizes tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  4. 4. Assembles, installs, or repairs wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  5. 5. Dismantles devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  6. 6. Paints or repairs roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
  7. 7. Maintains and repairs specialized equipment and machinery found in the community as assigned.
  8. 8. Provides grounds keeping services, such as minor landscaping tasks.
  9. 9. Performs general cleaning of buildings or properties.
  10. 10. Applies cleaning solvents, builds or repairs structures and/or wooden frameworks, and paints walls or other structural surfaces.
  11. 11. Installs locks, hinges, or related finish hardware.
  12. 12. Assists in other areas of the community as needed (i.e. driving the bus, dining).

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:
  • HVAC certification a plus
  • Valid driver's license
Equipment:
  • Common hand and power tools to complete maintenance tasks
