MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT, ADMINISTRATION

LOCATION: Hartford, CT with travel to Waterbury and Manchester

COMPENSATION: $25.00/HOUR

One of the oldest organizations of its kind in the country, Community Partners in Action (CPA) was founded nearly 150 years ago to champion criminal justice reform and advocate for preserving the dignity of those in and out of prison. Through our programs that include reentry and housing, youth initiatives, a nationally recognized Prison Arts Program, and holistic alternatives to incarceration, we provide a long-term impact that positively transforms individuals and society at large. Annually serving nearly 7,000 individuals throughout Connecticut, our work is possible due to partnerships with and support from individuals, government, private funders, organizations, and businesses.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Essential trade skills required to include replacing/repairing sheetrock, taping, painting, lawn care, snow removal, replacing light bulbs and broken tiles, light plumbing and general building repairs. Ability to handle a physical workload. Experience operating power equipment including lawn mower, snow blowers, power washers, floor care equipment, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers. Must be able to work independently and manage priorities effectively. Must work collaboratively with staff, vendors, and governmental agencies and have the ability to analyze and solve problems efficiently and successfully. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and decision-making. Must be ethical, self-motivated, dependable/reliable and possess a valid CT driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine maintenance/general building repairs, e.g., painting, of agency facilities in Hartford, Waterbury, and Manchester.
  • Maintain excellent communication and professional boundaries with all staff, participants and vendors.
  • Provide written weekly project summaries to the Facilities Manager or Designee.
  • Maintain an inventory of all CPA equipment and facilitate repairs when needed.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and/or monthly building inspections with a high attention to detail to identify necessary repairs.
  • Perform seasonal work such as lawn mowing, raking, snow removal.
  • Perform tasks with tools and ladders in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize maintenance tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Promote a culture of respect, empathy, mutual support and belonging, working to eliminate any unconscious bias or discrimination in our beliefs, rules and systems.
  • Member of the Safety Committee.
  • Adhere to all CPA Policies and Procedures including PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) standards.
  • Participate in all required training.
  • Perform all other duties as required.
