The Hotel Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the hotel property. This position helps ensure that guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, equipment, and hotel facilities are safe, functional, clean, and well-maintained.
The Maintenance Assistant will work closely with the General Manager and hotel management to identify and address maintenance needs, respond to guest and staff requests, complete preventative maintenance, and assist with projects throughout the property. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, a strong learner, and willing to take initiative.
Guest Room Maintenance
- Inspect and maintain guest rooms to ensure they are safe, functional, and ready for occupancy.
- Respond to maintenance concerns reported by guests or Housekeeping.
- Address issues such as lights, plumbing, HVAC, televisions, doors, locks, furniture, and other room-related concerns.
- Communicate room maintenance issues to the Front Desk and management.
- Complete maintenance work orders and document completed repairs as required.
- Follow up on unresolved maintenance issues to ensure they are properly addressed.
Hotel & Facility Maintenance
- Assist with maintaining the appearance and functionality of common areas, hallways, stairways, elevators, meeting rooms, restaurant areas, and other hotel spaces.
- Assist with maintenance of hotel grounds and exterior areas.
- Help maintain parking areas, entrances, sidewalks, and outdoor areas as needed.
- Assist with snow removal, grounds upkeep, and seasonal maintenance when necessary.
- Perform painting, touch-ups, minor repairs, and other property improvement projects.
- Assist with furniture, equipment, and fixture installation or relocation.
- Help with meeting and event space setup or breakdown when needed.
Safety & Preventative Maintenance
- Follow hotel safety procedures and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist with routine inspections of equipment and property systems.
- Report potential fire, electrical, plumbing, structural, or other safety hazards to management.
- Assist with maintaining fire safety equipment and other safety-related systems as directed.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation for maintenance activities.
- Follow all manufacturer instructions and hotel procedures when operating equipment.
- Use tools, ladders, chemicals, and equipment safely and appropriately.
Department Support
- Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Desk, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Sales, and management to address maintenance needs.
- Prioritize maintenance requests based on guest needs, safety, and operational importance.
- Communicate professionally with guests when responding to maintenance requests.
- Assist other hotel departments when maintenance or operational support is needed.
- Complete projects and assignments provided by the General Manager or hotel management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with guests.
- Respect guest privacy and personal belongings when entering occupied rooms.
- Minimize disruption to guests while completing maintenance work.
- Respond to guest concerns promptly and communicate professionally.
- Take ownership of maintenance issues and ensure they are either resolved or properly communicated to management.
Qualifications
- Previous hotel maintenance, building maintenance, construction, facilities, or related experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of general building maintenance and repair preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine appropriate solutions.
- Dependable and able to complete assignments without constant supervision.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests.
- Professional and respectful when interacting with guests and employees.
- Willingness to learn hotel systems, equipment, and property-specific procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Valid driver's license may be required for certain hotel-related duties.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, reach, and climb as needed.
- Ability to work on ladders and in various areas of the hotel.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks when necessary.
- Ability to respond quickly to maintenance and safety concerns.
