Job summary

Chambliss Center for Children in Chattanooga, TN, seeks a Maintenance Assistant for full-time or part-time roles with days-only schedules. Training provided; no nights or weekends.

Pay ranges from $17 to $20 per hour, with a company truck provided during shifts and room to grow within maintenance and facilities operations. Responsibilities include completing work orders, basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC support, inspecting facilities, and moving/repairing furniture.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Comfort with hand and power tools for basic repairs.
• Willingness to learn and perform building maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Complete maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Handle plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC support as needed.
• Inspect facilities and report safety concerns.
• Move and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
• Respond to urgent maintenance needs and maintain clean, safe facilities.

Full or Part Time; No Nights or Weekends

As a 24/7/365 nonprofit serving children, youth, and families, Chambliss Center for Children depends on safe, well-maintained buildings to provide quality care. Our Maintenance Assistant helps keep our facilities clean, safe, and running smoothly across our agency locations in the Chattanooga area.

If you’re handy, dependable, and comfortable working with a range of tools and equipment, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need to know how to do everything on day one. We’re willing to train the right person and help you build you' skills in building maintenance.

What We Offer

• Full-time (40 hours) or part-time (25-32 hours) positions available
• Weekday schedule: Monday-Friday, days only
• No weekends or on-call rotation. After-hours needs are rare and limited to occasional emergencies or urgent repairs.
• Pay: $17-$20 per hour, based on skills and experience

What You’ll Do

• Complete maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance tasks
• Help with general building repairs, including:
  • Plumbing
  • Basic electrical work
  • Carpentry
  • Painting
  • HVAC support
• Inspect facilities and report maintenance or safety concerns
• Install, move, and repair furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Respond to urgent maintenance needs as they come up
• Help keep agency facilities clean, safe, and operating smoothly

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Comfortable safely using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or HVAC, and a willingness to learn more
• At least 1 year of general building maintenance, construction, or handyman experience preferred
• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently between locations
• Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check (required for working around children)

Physical Requirements

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders throughout the day
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Travel between multiple agency locations throughout the Chattanooga area
