Responsibilities

  • Identify and classify routine housekeeping and maintenance tasks for compliance.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment with adequate supplies and equipment.
  • Develop and enforce infection control, waste disposal, and Universal Precautions policies.
  • Ensure staff follow safety rules, fire procedures, and departmental policies.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of supplies and equipment to ensure readiness.
  • Protect residents' confidentiality and rights while performing duties.
  • Assist in training and supervising housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance personnel.

Job description

Work with the Maintenance Director to maintain and improve the overall operation of the Housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance departments in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the community, and as may be directed by the Executive Director and Maintenance Director, to ensure that the community is maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable manner and to ensure that an adequate supply of laundry and linen are on hand at all times to meet the need of the residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance services.

  • Coordinate housekeeping, laundry and maintenance services and activities with other related departments in accordance with the Maintenance Director.

  • Inspect and maintain storage rooms, linen closets, utility and janitorial, all areas of the Housekeeping, Laundry and Maintenance Departments.

  • Assist the risk management committee in identifying, evaluating and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure that the Category I and II housekeeping, laundry and maintenance tasks are properly classified.

  • Ensure that the community and department are maintained in a clean and safe manner and that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained and operable to perform required duties and services.

  • Ensure that a sufficient level of supplies, disinfectants, equipment, etc. is maintained to provide a clean, safe and sanitary environment.

  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining infection control, waste disposal and Universal Precautions policies and procedures to ensure that a sanitary environment is always maintained and that aseptic and isolation techniques are followed by all housekeeping and laundry personnel.

  • Ensure that housekeeping, laundry and maintenance personnel understand and follow Universal Precautions, established safety rules, fire and disaster procedures and departmental policies and procedures while performing daily tasks.

  • Make periodic inspections of supplies and equipment to ensure that adequate levels are maintained and that equipment is available and working properly.

  • Maintain resident's confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect; know and comply with Residents' Rights rules; ensure that the residents' personal and property rights are always followed by housekeeping and laundry personnel.

  • Assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the changes as required.

  • Develop and participate in planning, conducting and scheduling training, orientation and in service educational activities for housekeeping, laundry and maintenance personnel.

  • Must be well-versed in all technological systems such as Emergency Call, Fire Panels, electronic locks and all other systems.

  • Be on-call for emergency situations as instructed.

  • Participate as instructed in the sales process of potential residents.

  • Conduct yourself professionally and contribute to, service-oriented environment through their appearance, communication, and interactions with residents, families, visitors, and colleagues.

  • Any other tasks, assignments, projects or requests as deemed by the Maintenance Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 21 years of age, or older

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all background screening requirements permitted by applicable federal, state, and local law.

  • Demonstrated previous experience in environmental control and operation of housekeeping equipment practices.

  • Must read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Must demonstrate professionalism, empathy, patience, and effective interpersonal skills when interacting with residents, families, visitors, and team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with some college preferred.

  • Experience working with seniors is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, transferring, and assisting residents as required by the position.

  • Must be able to squat, reach, and stretch without distress.

  • Must be able to tolerate extended periods of walking and standing.
