Job summary

Hawaiian Building Maintenance is looking for a Maintenance Apprentice in Honolulu, Hawaii. Reporting to the Site Supervisor or Chief Engineer, you will gain hands-on experience in general and grounds maintenance while learning from skilled technicians and building engineers.

The role requires a Hawaii driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• A valid Hawaii driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
• Must pass HBM prescreen check.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Customer service-oriented mindset.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, HVAC, painting, drywall, and grounds maintenance.
• Access tight spaces as needed.
• Work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring mechanical equipment and systems function correctly and repairs are completed.
• Deliver outstanding customer service when interacting with property managers, vendors, and clients.
• Move and maneuver during shifts (standing, walking, bending, stretching).
• Lift, push, and pull weights between 50 to 75 pounds.
• Create and maintain work orders and purchase orders.
• Complete additional maintenance tasks assigned by the supervisor or property management.

Job description

We are seeking a Maintenance Apprentice to join our dynamic and innovative team. Reporting directly to the Site Supervisor or Chief Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for general maintenance and grounds maintenance. This role offers hands‑on experience, working closely with maintenance technician and building engineers to acquire essential skills in machinery, equipment maintenance, repair techniques, and safety practices. Candidates must pass an HBM prescreen check, possess a valid Hawaii driver’s license, have access to a reliable vehicle, and while previous hands‑on basic maintenance experience is preferred, it is not required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team are essential.

• Schedule: Varies Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
• Compensation per hour: $18.00-$20.00
