M-F 630a-330p overtime and weekends as needed

Atlanta, GA, plant is seeking a candidate to fill a Facilities Maintenance Apprentice position. This is an hourly position Monday through Friday and some Saturdays with the possibility of overtime. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to working safely, good communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience in a manufacturing environment is recommended, plus a strong desire to succeed and advance in the company. This is entry-level hybrid/developmental position that provides hands‑on training in facility operations, preventive maintenance, building systems, safety practices, and maintenance coordination and administration.

How you will Impact Smurfit Westrock:
  • Must maintain excellent attendance reliability
  • Ability to safely operate various manufacturing equipment, follow specific directions, and perform duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work safely, comply with all safety rules, lift, push or pull >50lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
  • Ability to read a tape measure (to 1/16” measurement, do basic math, and some computer skills).
  • General mechanical aptitude & trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to learn and gain the skills needed to focus on safety familiarity with motors, drives, contacts, relays, timers, PLC's, PC's, etc…
  • Ability to learn and corrugated equipment maintenance or related heavy industrial maintenance
  • Ability to learn and and perform electrical, mechanical, and welding work as necessary
  • Ability to read and learn and wiring schematics, machine manuals, mechanical drawings and blueprints
Maintenance Coordination
  • Schedule and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities
  • Prioritize maintenance work orders
  • Assign tasks to maintenance technicians and contractors
  • Track completion of maintenance activities
  • Communicate equipment downtime and repair status to operations teams
Maintenance Support
  • Perform or assist with: Mechanical repairs, Electrical troubleshooting, Pneumatic and hydraulic systems maintenance, Basic PLC and controls support
  • Preventative maintenance: Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and operational
  • Support emergency breakdown response
  • Report issues before they become major problems
  • Maintain a catalog of maintenance issues and problem resolutions
Tool Room & Inventory Management
  • Maintain tool crib/tool room inventory
  • Track tool issuance and returns
  • Monitor spare parts inventory levels
  • Order maintenance supplies and replacement parts
  • Manage vendor relationships, purchase order requests, and deliveries
  • Ensure that critical spare parts are available!!
Administrative Functions
  • Generate maintenance reports and KPIs
  • Track labor hours and work order status
  • Support safety and compliance documentation
What you need to succeed:
  • HS diploma or GED required, and skilled training is a plus
  • 8 or 10-hour shifts
  • Must be self-starting/self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have a sense of urgency to complete tasks accurately and on time
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to interact with other levels of management and staff
    Industrial manufacturing experience, are preferred
  • Must be flexible on shift
