Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT is seeking a Maintenance and Grounds Technician to keep campus safe, functional, and welcoming. This full-time, hourly role reports to the Facilities Operations Manager and includes participation in an after-hours on-call rotation to respond to campus emergencies.

You will perform a mix of indoor maintenance and outdoor groundskeeping, including repairs, landscaping, irrigation, and event support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2–3 years in general maintenance and groundskeeping.
• Experience operating maintenance and landscaping equipment.
• Experience in educational or institutional settings preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC repairs and maintain campus infrastructure.
• Operate landscaping equipment for mowing, pruning, fertilizing, leaf collection, and snow/ice removal.
• Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, outdoor lighting, athletic fields, walkways, and parking lots.
• Assist with event setup and tear down; collaborate with Facilities team on campus beautification.
• Respond to work orders promptly while adhering to safety regulations and chemical handling.

About the Role

As a Maintenance and Grounds Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of campus buildings and grounds. This is a full-time, hourly position within our Facilities’ department, reporting directly to the Facilities Operations Manager. This role includes participation in an after-hours on-call rotation to respond to campus emergencies.

What You Will Do

• General Maintenance: Perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC repairs, while maintaining campus infrastructure like doors, windows, lighting, and fixtures.
• Groundskeeping & Seasonal Care: Operate and maintain landscaping equipment for mowing, pruning, fertilizing, leaf collection, and robust snow and ice removal.
• Campus Infrastructure Support: Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, outdoor lighting, athletic fields, walkways, and parking lots.
• Event & Team Collaboration: Assist with event setup and tear down (including moving furniture and equipment) and work closely with the Facilities team on campus beautification projects.
• Safety & Service: Respond to campus work orders promptly and professionally while ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations and proper chemical handling.

What We Are Looking For

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. Trade school certification or technical training in building maintenance or landscaping is a plus.
• Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in general maintenance and groundskeeping, with proven experience operating maintenance and landscaping equipment. Prior experience in an educational or institutional setting is preferred.
• Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and comfortably work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• License: A valid driver’s license is required.
