Job summary

The City of Seal Beach (CA) is seeking a laborer to perform a range of tasks including debris removal from gutters and drainage structures, custodial duties at City facilities, and light maintenance on beach facilities. You will operate basic hand and power tools, assist in concrete work, and help set up equipment for events at parks and other city locations.

Applicants should have previous laborer experience; municipal experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Remove and clear debris from gutters, culverts and drainage structures.
• Perform custodial and general maintenance of City facilities.
• Perform pick and shovel work; assist in concrete work; operate power machinery and various tools.
• Maintain park restrooms and buildings; custodial upkeep.
• Assist in setup of equipment for events and maintain beach facilities.
• Perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including graffiti removal, cleaning, and minor repairs.

Job description

Depending on assignment, essential duties may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Removal and clearing of debris from gutters, culverts, and drainage structures.
2. Perform custodial and general maintenance of City facilities.
3. Perform pick and shovel work; assists in concrete work; operates power machinery and a variety of hand tools.
4. Perform custodial maintenance, upkeep of restrooms and buildings at park locations.
5. Assists in the setup of equipment (tables, chairs, canopies, etc.) and bleachers for special events.
6. Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of beach facilities, including dumping trash cans, picking up debris along waterline, cleaning rest rooms, driving 4-wheel drive trucks on beach, performing minor plumbing and building maintenance, removing graffiti, painting, hand-picking litter and other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF

The tools and methods employed in basic laboring work.

SKILL TO

Use a variety of manual and power tools and equipment.

ABILITY TO

Lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) safely; withstand exposure to all weather conditions; noise, dust, grease, smoke fumes, gases, waste materials; work in or with water.

LICENSES

Possessing and maintaining a valid California Driver’s License is required.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Previous laborer experience is required. Municipal experience is highly desirable.
