Job summary

The City of Escondido is seeking a part-time Maintenance Aide II to support custodial services and perform facility repairs at the Escondido Sports Center and Kit Carson Park. The anticipated shift is Monday–Thursday 7 a.m.–3 p.m.

with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, totaling approximately 30 hours per week. Responsibilities include cleaning facilities, minor maintenance, restroom disinfection, safety inspections, record-keeping, and assisting with programs and events.

Job description

(TEMPORARY - Part-Time Position - 1500 hour, PERS eligible)

This position is budgeted to start at $17.34- $21.65 per hour.

The Community Services Department is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Aide II. This part-time (30-hours/week) position will support custodial services, perform facility repairs, and maintain recreation facilities primarily at the Escondido Sports Center and surrounding Kit Carson Park. The anticipated shift will be Monday- Thursday 7 a.m.- 3 p.m. (1-hour unpaid lunch.).

General Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision of the Community Services Manager, this position will clean, repair, and maintain orderliness of Recreation facilities.
  • Provide assistance as needed to fellow employees for special programs, daily tasks, and unanticipated events.
  • Perform a variety of manual or semi-skilled duties related to maintenance and repair of City facilities.
Position responsibilities include:
  • Clean facility grounds; keep arenas, Ray Love Tennis Center, Sports Center facility and parking lot clean and orderly.
  • Perform minor building and facility maintenance, as needed.
  • Clean and disinfect restroom surfaces, including toilets, floors, fixtures, mirrors.
  • Inspect facility and equipment for safety purposes.
  • Maintain simple records and perform minor computer tasks.
  • Monitor quantities of supplies and materials used, and replenish as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate for this position will:
  • Work well in a team environment, display good customer service skills.
  • Use and properly operate assigned equipment and tools used in maintenance work.
  • Have familiarity with common terminology used in basic maintenance work.
  • Have experience in custodial or building maintenance responsibilities.
  • Have the ability to lift 30 lbs.
Minimum requirements:
  • 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid class C driver’s license

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applications will be screened and the most qualified candidates will be invited to appear for testing. All positions require the ability to read, write and speak English. Types of tests may include written and/or oral examination, physical agility, practical exam or other appropriate job-related selection process. When testing is completed, candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list in the order of their test score. Selection for appointments is made from names certified on the eligibility list.

All appointments are subject to the successful completion of background investigation including LIVESCAN fingerprinting, and will be required to submit verification of the legal right to work in the United States. Qualification by a medical examination will be required at the time of appointment. After appointment, classified employees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period to be eligible for regular status. In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must produce proof of eligibility to work in the United States within the first three days of their employment. The City of Escondido participates in E-Verify®.

The Loyalty Oath will be administered to all new employees on their first day of hire. New employees hired into positions that require a driver's license must provide proof of a valid California Driver's License of the appropriate class level on their first day of employment.
