SUMMARY
The Maintenance Specialist 1/C is accountable to the Maintenance Leader for the continuous improvement of safety for plant personnel, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and reducing maintenance costs consistent with overall plant goals. The purpose of this role is to assist the Maintenance Leader in maintaining and improving the equipment within the Summit Asphalt Plant.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take personal ownership to work safely each day and hold other team members to the same high standards of safety.
- Notify the Maintenance Leader immediately of any accident, near miss, or injury, regardless of how minor it may seem.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pipe fitting.
- Identify and fix unsafe conditions and report them immediately to the Plant Leader.
- Know and practice lock/tag/try procedures for all required plant equipment.
- Maintain and understand plant piping systems, including water, steam, compressed air, and asphalt systems.
- Understand and use proper lockout devices for piping systems, including locking valves, installing blinds, and confined vessel entry procedures.
- Understand and use burn-welding safety/hot work permits.
- Practice line breaking procedures safely.
- Replace and service seals and gaskets, including pump packing.
- Replace valves and valve components as needed.
- Use basic electrical test equipment (voltmeter, clamp-on ammeter).
- Perform non-certified welding (Arc/MIG/TIG).
- Troubleshoot and maintain burner systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
- Repair all plant equipment as necessary.
- Properly align equipment.
- Obtain forklift and aerial lift certifications and operate accordingly.
- Operate boilers and perform blow-down procedures.
- Test boiler water chemistry.
- Follow fall protection procedures and requirements.
- Understand arc flash safety and PPE procedures.
- Perform all additional maintenance skills required, even if not specifically listed.

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in operations and maintenance across various systems such as boilers, incinerators, preheaters, hot oil systems, tank burners, truck loading/unloading, acid systems, and computer control operations.
