Job summary

LAKIN UNIFIED SCH DISTRICT 215 is seeking a Maintenance worker in Lakin, Kansas to perform general maintenance and repair of district facilities and grounds. • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently.
• Basic electrical & plumbing experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
• Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
• Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
• Complete repairs as directed on work orders or by maintenance foreman.
• Assist with snow removal, mowing and detailing of district grounds.
• Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance

FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time position

Primary Purpose:

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout district. Assist with maintenance of grounds.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Clear and valid Kansas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
• Ability to operate hand and power tools
• Ability to work independently
• Basic electrical & plumbing experience (preferred)

Experience: Experience in general building maintenance(preferred)

Essential Job Functions

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.

• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
• Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Comply with all district policies, rules, and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Requires the ability to frequently use small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; operate a light truck or van.
• Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.
• Requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders/scaffolding, regularly grasp/squeeze, wrist flexion/extension, and reach overhead
• Requires the ability to lift and carry items 45 lbs. and over daily.
• Requires the ability to work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, on and around vehicles.
• Requires the ability to work with frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts.
• Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.
• Requires the ability to drive and travel frequently districtwide and occasionally statewide.
• Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
