Job summary

Best Western Downers Grove in Downers Grove, IL seeks a Hotel Maintenance Technician to assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining a zero-defect environment for guests and to inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment.

Duties include room and building repairs (ceiling tiles, filters, bulbs, vinyl, painting), toilets, sinks, and exterior areas, while ensuring safety standards. Flexible schedule with nights, weekends and holidays; HVAC certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Troubleshooting ability with basic painting, HVAC and carpentry skills.
  • HVAC certification preferred.
  • Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge expected.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining a zero-defect environment for guests. Inspects, maintains, and repairs all mechanical, electrical, and other equipment used by guests or affecting the quality of their experience while visiting the property.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create a safe, attractive, and functioning environment for guests and associates by ensuring the hotel is maintained in accordance with safety standards.
  • Complete hotel room and building repairs such as replacing ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs, patching vinyl, and painting.
  • Perform repairs on toilets, sinks, laundry facilities, kitchen, and other hotel property.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of the exterior of the hotel, grounds, pool, and exercise room.
  • Ensure the hotel adheres to all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Respond to house calls immediately.
  • Escalate requests that cannot be fixed immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfy each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years of hotel or apartment experience. Knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing maintenance. Experience with general maintenance tools.

Troubleshooting ability with skills in painting, HVAC, and carpentry.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays. HVAC certification preferred.
