Job summary

TechDigital Group is seeking an experienced z/OS System Programmer to manage installation, configuration, and maintenance of z/VM and related software in a 24/7 mainframe environment. You will monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, orchestrate backups, and support 24/7 operations.

In this role you will lead junior team members, contribute to automation initiatives, and help optimize critical workloads such as banking transactions and airline reservations, ensuring service level commitments

Qualifications

• Experience with z/VM operating system and components in a mainframe environment.
• Familiarity with Velocity and Broadcom VM software for system administration.
• Experience administering guest VM and Linux in a virtualization-heavy stack.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain z/OS and z/VM, customize OS components and automate tasks.
• Monitor and tune mainframe performance to meet workload SLAs.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues with coordination from vendors.
• Conduct daily operations: health checks, backups, patches, and user support.
• Lead and mentor junior staff and contribute to automation strategies.

Job Description/ Responsibilities

z/OS System programmer

System Installation and Maintenance: Install new z/VM operating systems, apply updates, and maintain system security. Customize the OS and related software to meet organizational requirements, including upgrades and configuration of system libraries and automation tools.

Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize settings to ensure efficient processing of workloads such as banking transactions or airline reservations .

Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve system issues promptly to minimize business impact. This includes debugging system software, handling incidents, and coordinating with vendors for technical support .

Daily Operations: Conduct system health checks, manage backups and recovery processes, apply patches, and provide user support. Ensure that the mainframe environment meets service level agreements, especially in 24/7 operational settings .

Project Support and Leadership: Participate in technical projects, including installation and testing of new system software. Provide guidance to junior team members, mentor colleagues, and contribute to automation strategies and best practices .
