Job summary

Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is actively interviewing for a Mainframe z/OS Specialist for a 12+ month contract in Plano, TX (Remote). The role requires deep z/OS expertise, SMP/E proficiency, and strong IBM Utilities knowledge to manage and upgrade complex mainframe environments.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement system improvements, upgrade OS levels, and ensure efficient operation of z/OS platforms. This contract offers long-term potential and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional Mainframe System Programmer experience in z/OS and ISVs.
• Expertise with SMP/E and non-SMP/E ISV installations.
• Strong knowledge of IBM Utilities such as IEBGENER/IEBCOPY/AMASPZAP/DFDSS.

Responsibilities

• Perform configuration, installation & maintenance in the mainframe environment using SMP/E and vendor software.
• Upgrade z/OS and perform RSU maintenance via z/OSMF Workflow.
• Architect, install, and configure complex z/OS environments and third-party software.
• Support software standardization and new feature implementations.
• Collaborate with storage, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, and networking teams from a z/OS perspective.
• Work with Mainframe System Programmers across tracks to improve the mainframe environment.
• Identify and implement system/process improvements and communicate timelines with stakeholders.

Job description

Immediate need for a talented Mainframe z/OS Specialist. This is a 12+ Months Contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Plano, TX (Remote).

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform standard system programming activities like configuration, installation & maintenance using SMP/E, and vendor software installations in the mainframe environment.
• Perform Operating System upgrade and RSU maintenance via z/OSMF Workflow.
• Advanced System Management: Architect, install, and configure highly complex z/OS environments and third-party software.
• Support Software Standardization and new Feature implementations.
• Support other team: storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking, and operating procedures from zOS perspective.
• Work with Mainframe System Programmers staff across tracks to enhance the mainframe environment.
• Assist team members to solve problems, make innovative improvements and make decisions.
• Identify and implement system and process improvements in the z/OS environment Work with application support teams and other internal customers to facilitate business initiatives.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

• 12+ years of professional work experience as a Mainframe System Programmer in zOS & ISVs.
• Expertise in performing SMP/E and Non-SMPE Installation of ISV products)
• Expertise in IBM and Broadcom Software product Install and Upgrades
• Mastery of z/OS system commands, utilities, and automation tools.
• Operating system z/OS V2.5 upgrades or later with z/OSMF workflow execution.
• IODF, HCD Skillset to add new devices.
• Sysplex and config management (good to have)
• Fluent in JCL and IBM Utilities (IEBGENER/IEBCOPY/AMASPZAP/DFDSS)
• ISPF/TSO and other basic
• Basic knowledge of REXX/CLIST
• Designing project plan(upgrades, maintenance, decom) with task list for all stakeholders and communicating the timelines with delivery and customer.
• Formulate roadmaps with all pre-requisites to achieve a project completion.
