Responsibilities

The Peraton Leveraged Mainframe team is seeking a Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer to assist with tasks such as installs, upgrades, and maintenance of z/OS, CICS, DB2, MQ Series, Network Software, and related sub-products that support the z/OS mainframe environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Build and delete z/OS, CICS, DB2, MQ Series regions.
  • Install and uninstall z/OS, CICS, DB2, MQ Series, and related sub-products.
  • Perform software upgrades and maintenance refreshes for these products.
  • Administer z/OS and related software through configuration and generation processes.
  • Support network software components and associated sub-products.
  • Maintain familiarity with multiple z/OS products from vendors like IBM, Broadcom/CA, BMC, etc.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support, including incident response and root cause analysis.
  • Support client transitions, migrations, and disengagements.
  • Handle change management tasks, including ticketing and configuration updates.
  • Participate in problem resolution, including Sev 1 to Sev 4 incidents.
  • Assist with data security audits and disaster recovery activities.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and project strategies.
  • Lead complex z/OS projects and provide technical leadership.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and escalate to vendors as needed.
  • Create tools and processes to improve team productivity.
  • Develop documentation, standards, and automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with clients and support remote operations.
  • Manage incident, change, and problem tickets across various tools.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD; 9 years with HS Diploma
  • Experience supporting mainframe environments.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep understanding of z/OS architecture and components.
  • Proficiency in Assembler language, SMP/E, JCL, and REXX.
  • Knowledge of z/OS security, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with z/OS network software, TCP/IP, VTAM, and related products.
  • Hardware management experience with IBM Z processors and HMCs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of mainframe experience.
