- We’re driving one of the largest mainframe modernization initiatives in the industry—upgrading to z16/z17, moving to IBM DS8000, and implementing GDPS.
We are seeking a Mainframe Storage Engineer / Administrator to join our infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in DFSMS, storage management, replication technologies, and data migration, with a focus on maintaining availability, performance, and resiliency in complex mainframe environments.
This role involves configuring, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise storage systems across multi-LPAR Sysplex environments, performing advanced catalog functions, and supporting data protection, replication, and migration activities.
Job Focus
- 75% day-to-day maintenance/support and 25% project work
- Work involves running scripts, managing replication (GDDR/GDPS), and following SOPs precisely — no improvising needed.
- Importance placed on peer review (“second set of eyes”) to prevent mistakes.
TECHNICAL SKILLS required - At least 5 years experience
DFSMS
- Strong SMS Knowledge including ACS Routine updates in multi-LPAR sysplexes.
- Translation, Validation and activation of SMS policies.
- DATACLAS, MGMTCLAS, STORCLAS, STORGRP definitions, updates and removals.
- ISMF
IBM Utilities
- IDCAMS for basic catalog functions
- TACM for extended catalog functions
- VVDS Management
- ICKDSF for initializing and re-labelling (clipping) volumes.
- IEBCOPY, IEHLIST, IEHPROGM, IEBGENER
- Catalog Sharing along with ECS and Coupling Facility Catalog access (CATALOG RLS).
Data Backup and Migration
- Strong knowledge of FDR, ABR and CPK
- Strong knowledge of DFHSM and primary, secondary and interval migration
Replication
- Strong knowledge of GDPS and / or GDDR/MFE
- Synchronous and Asynchronous Replication
- SnapVX / Flash Copies / BCVs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data center migrations or large-scale storage transitions.
- Background in mainframe storage infrastructure modernization.
Non-Technical Skills
- Self-starter with strong initiative and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is ($60-75/hr). Actual hourly rate will be based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills and other factors permitted by law.
