Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe QA Analyst to support a critical modernization initiative. The project involves expanding Unemployment Insurance (UI) Employer Account Numbers from 6 digits to 9 digits, impacting COBOL batch programs, CICS online transactions, DB2 databases, and integrated systems.
The Mainframe QA Analyst will be responsible for ensuring system accuracy, data integrity, and regression stability across the UI ecosystem, working closely with developers, DBAs, and state IT stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze business and technical requirements related to account number expansion
- Develop detailed test plans, test cases, and test scenarios for mainframe systems
- Execute testing for COBOL batch jobs, CICS online transactions, and DB2-related changes
- Validate correct handling of 9-digit account numbers across all impacted systems
- Perform regression testing to ensure no disruption to benefits, employer accounts, or reporting
- Coordinate and support integration and end-to-end testing with downstream systems
- Identify, document, and track defects through resolution
- Validate data integrity before and after code and database changes
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and production validation
- Maintain clear QA documentation and testing artifacts
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of mainframe QA or testing experience
- Strong understanding of COBOL batch processing, CICS online systems, and DB2
- Experience validating data using SQL and mainframe tools
- Experience testing high-volume, mission-critical systems
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Experience working in z/OS environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing Unemployment Insurance, benefits, tax, or financial systems
- Familiarity with identifier expansion or data-structure changes
- Experience with government or highly regulated environments
- Knowledge of mainframe testing tools or batch schedulers
- Experience supporting long-term system modernization projects
