Financial Services Company in Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid) seeks a Software Engineer for an 18-month contract. The role focuses on COBOL mainframe development, batch processing, and data distribution within a core deposits team.

You will work with product and business stakeholders, mentor junior engineers, and support ongoing maintenance of legacy systems in a regulated financial services environment.

Competenze

• 4+ years of Software Engineering experience or equivalent experience
• Strong COBOL development experience in a mainframe environment
• Extensive VSAM knowledge
• Experience maintaining legacy mainframe applications
• Solid understanding of JCL for batch processing
• Experience in Agile environments
• Strong communication with product and business stakeholders
• Ability and willingness to mentor junior engineers
• Banking/financial services experience is key
• Understanding of account numbers, check numbers, routing and related Cobol interactions

• Consult on or participate in moderately complex initiatives within Software Engineering.
• Review and analyze moderately complex Software Engineering challenges.
• Contribute to resolution of issues and ensure deliverables in line with policies and compliance.
• Collaborate with client personnel in Software Engineering.
• Support and maintain Data Distributor and related applications in the MN core deposits team.
• Modify COBOL programs to meet product and business requirements.
• Validate and distribute data to Hogan IDS, including nightly batch processing.
• Develop and maintain JCL for batch jobs and production workflows.
• Perform testing, validation, and deployments following change processes.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with product partners.
• Support production issues and contribute to application stability.
• Mentor and train junior engineers on Hogan and mainframe best practices.

Contract Duration: 18 Months

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work or consulting experience, training, military experience, education.
• Strong COBOL development experience in a mainframe environment (most critical skill)
• Understand and have worked with VSAM extensively.
• Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy, highly customized mainframe applications
• Solid understanding of JCL (for batch processing)
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with product and business stakeholders
• Ability and willingness to mentor junior engineers
• Banking/ financial services experience will be very key for this role
• Specific experience and understanding of how account numbers, check numbers, routing, etc. break down interact and breakdown inside Cobol)
• Understanding of how those items track and interact internally
• Deposit tracking, fraud, etc. in finance experience is also nice

Desired Skills & Experience

• ServiceNow experience for incident, change, or problem management
• Experience supporting batch heavy overnight processing
• Background working in financial services or regulated environments
• Prior experience on long lived, business critical systems with complex integrations

What You Will Be Doing

• Consult on or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within Software Engineering and contribute to large-scale planning related to Software Engineering deliverables.
• Review and analyze moderately complex Software Engineering challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
• Contribute to the resolution of moderately complex issues and consult with others to meet Software Engineering deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with client personnel in Software Engineering.
• Support and maintain the Data Distributor, NOVA and SD applications in the Core Deposits team in MN.
• Modify existing COBOL programs to meet product and business requirements (enhancements, fixes, regulatory updates)
• Validate and distribute data to Hogan IDS, including nightly batch processing
• Develop and maintain JCL for batch jobs and production workflows
• Perform testing, validation, and production deployments following client change processes
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with product partners
• Support production issues and contribute to application stability
• Mentor and help train junior engineers on Hogan and mainframe best practices
