Job summary

Vulcan Elements in Durham, NC is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers in physics-based and data-driven modeling of magnets and processing. The role combines hands-on modeling with people leadership to improve magnet performance, production yields, and process efficiency.

You will guide FEA, CFD, thermodynamic modeling, and image analysis to create quantitative links between structure, processing conditions, and final properties.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in a quantitative field as stated above.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with COMSOL, Fluent, or equivalent and FEA.
  • Strong math modeling background with image analysis or ML for materials data.
  • Familiarity with rare earth magnets and NdFeB systems is beneficial.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a small technical team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a matrixed modeling and simulations team across FEA, CFD, and thermodynamic modeling.
  • Translate R&D priorities into a modeling agenda with clear deliverables and timelines.
  • Establish standards for model validation, documentation, and peer review.
  • Present results to technical and executive stakeholders and mentor researchers.
