Activar Incorporated in Minneapolis is seeking a skilled machinist to set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and CNC machines to produce metallic and non‑metallic parts. You will read engineering drawings, select cutters and fixtures, and verify dimensions against prints.

The role demands physical work (lift up to 60 lb), adherence to safety and quality standards, and teamwork in a fast‑paced shop. Starting pay is $30.00–$35.00 per hour with full benefits.

Description

POSITION PURPOSE: This position is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and CNC machines and machining centers to machine metallic and or non‑metallic parts by performing the following duties.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings and blueprints, schematic diagrams, and shop orders/jobs to determine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation.
  • Selects, positions, and secures any cutters or fixtures required in process.
  • Inspects and measures work to ensure products are within print specification.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Report immediately to supervisor/lead/manager any and all problems, which may affect safety, equipment, tooling, and/or quality.
  • Maintain full working knowledge of all processes.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all company standards and policies.
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to read and decipher CAD prints.
  • Ability to operate machines including, but not limited to bar code reader, computer terminal, other electronic devices, and forklift.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and the capacity to learn new systems.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and effective organizational skills.

  • Tenacity in overcoming obstacles while maintaining productive and positive working relationships.
  • Ability to execute in a rapidly changing fast paced environment that requires strong team work.
  • Understanding of all tools, gages, equipment, and other various instruments used to perform position.
  • Basic ability to understand blue prints, schematics, and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Skill in performing accurate arithmetic functions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; using decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios.
Required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification; or 1 year minimum of related experience and/or training.

The employee may be required to work with hazardous materials. The employee may be exposed to hot surfaces, hot air, electrical hazards, and flames. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works with moving machinery and occasionally in outside weather.

Starting hourly pay range: $30.00 - $35.00
