Job summary

Primetals Technologies USA is seeking an experienced Machinist Training Specialist to develop, coordinate, and deliver technical training programs for manual and CNC machinists in our machine shop. You will design curricula, lead hands-on teaching, and ensure safety and quality standards are met across operations.

The ideal candidate brings at least five years of machining experience, journeyman certification, and a passion for coaching the next generation of trades professionals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent skilled trades experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of CNC machining equipment and operations, manual machining, setup/operation, blueprint reading, precision measuring instruments, and quality standards.
• Demonstrated ability to train and develop employees in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, tooling, feeds, speeds, and precision measurement.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to employees with different levels of experience.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating with supervisors, engineers, and operators.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver technical training programs for manual and CNC machinists.
• Conduct hands-on instruction in machining practices, tooling, and measuring equipment.
• Maintain training materials, work instructions, presentations, assessments, and skill-validation tools.
• Evaluate employee competency through practical demonstrations, written assessments, and performance observations.
• Coach and mentor trainees to enhance technical proficiency, quality standards, and safe work practices.
• Support apprenticeship, onboarding, and upskilling programs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing leaders, engineers, and subject matter experts to identify training needs and develop learning solutions.
• Ensure training content aligns with company procedures, industry standards, and safety requirements.
• Monitor training effectiveness and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.
• Maintain accurate training records and documentation.
• Serve as a technical resource for machining best practices, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
