Machinist / Toolmaker
Job Summary: Provide accurate, high-quality tools and fixtures for an Engineering Product Development Center, utilizing various machining processes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and maintain all shop equipment including mills, lathes, grinders, and band saws.
- Manufacture tools and fixtures according to drawing specifications, ensuring all tolerance requirements are met.
- Work effectively in a team environment, sharing responsibilities such as machine maintenance and organization of tools.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, lubricate machinery, and assist with machine overhauls as needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints or verbal instructions to fabricate specialized tooling, jigs, gauges, and fixtures.
- Understand machine shop setups like rotary tables, indexing heads, boring heads, and others.
- Use precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, indicators, gages) for inspection before, during, and after machining.
- Possess knowledge of tool heat-treating processes.
- Support additional fabrication needs as directed.
Qualifications:
- 2 or 4-year degree in Machine Tool Technology or relevant experience substituting formal education.
- Minimum five years of experience operating manual mills, lathes, and CNC machines for custom tools and fixtures.
- Knowledge of CNC machining and programming with SolidWorks CAM and/or SprutCAM is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Understanding of machine shop safety and practices.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
ADA Requirements:
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Close visual acuity for inspecting parts to tight tolerances.
- Ability to work extended periods sitting and performing repetitive motions.
- Manage multiple projects with frequent interruptions and deadlines.
- Physical activities including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000. Note that this range may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors.
