Job description

The Manual Machinist is tasked with supporting production by modifying, reworking, and fabricating parts on manual equipment to meet print, fit, and function requirements. You’ll set up and operate drill presses, engine lathes, Bridgeport mills/ProtoTRAK, saws, and hand tools; interpret blueprints; hold tight tolerances; and maintain a clean, safe work area while collaborating closely with Production and Quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Modify/rework parts to spec using manual machines (lathe, mill/Bridgeport/ProtoTRAK, drill press, grinders, table/compound saws).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, and work instructions; verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select tooling/fixtures, perform basic setups, and run parts to achieve required finish and accuracy.
  • Inspect work using micrometers, calipers, gauges; document measurements where required.
  • Maintain equipment and work area per 5S/safety standards; report tool or machine issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with Production/Engineering to resolve fit/function issues and prioritize jobs.
  • Track work against schedules; support continuous improvement and standard work.
Requirements
  • 1–3 years of relevant manual machining experience preferred.
  • High school diploma preferred; 2-year tech school/college a plus.
  • Proficiency with manual lathes/mills, drilling, grinding, and common shop hand tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints (basic GD&T a plus) and use precision instruments (micrometers, calipers).
  • Solid shop math; capable of holding tight tolerances and finishing parts to spec.
  • Able to stand for extended periods and lift/move 40–50 lbs safely.
  • Safety-minded, organized, and dependable; able to work with minimal supervision.
