Job summary

Globe Machine Manufacturing Company in Tacoma, WA, is seeking a skilled machinist for the second shift to manufacture precision parts. You will read blueprints, set up CNC and manual machines, and work to tight tolerances.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of machinist experience in a job shop environment.
  • Must be able to read various measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometer & bore gauges).
  • Must be comfortable running one-off parts and small production runs.
  • Must be knowledgeable on Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerance.
  • Proven understanding of speeds and feeds, and machine codes required.
  • Proven experience working with various materials (Stainless, Leadloy, Brass, Delrin, 1045, 1050, etc.) required.
  • Must be able to safely lift 50-lb.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings required.
  • Must possess good math skills (Trig, Geometry, etc.).
  • Demonstrated adaptability, tact, and self-direction under tight deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and English proficiency.
  • Reliable with excellent attendance.
  • Professionalism and ethics; pass physical and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances using micrometers or Vernier calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using CNC and manual tools such as lathes and milling machines.
  • Perform G-Code/M-Code self-programming.
  • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools for precision machining.
  • Align and secure fixtures, tools, attachments, or materials on machines.
  • Measure and test completed units using micrometers to ensure conformance.
  • Handle hazardous materials per MSDS with PPE.
  • Perform bench work (drilling, honing, tapping, reaming, deburring).
  • Monitor feed and speed of machines during machining.
  • Maintain machine tools in proper condition.
  • Study drawings/blueprints to determine methods and sequences.
  • Operate equipment to verify efficiency and adjust as needed.
  • Check parts for lubrication or cooling; ensure proper lubrication.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and safety standards; overtime as needed.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and manlifts.

Job description

Since 1917, Globe Machine has been a manufacturer of industrial machines, systems, and plants for advanced composites, building products, and pulp & paper.

The successful machinist will have the capability to do manual and automated machining. Furthermore, they will be able to read and work from blueprints/schematics and perform tasks within budget hours.

Please note: this role is a SECOND SHIFT

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as micrometers or Vernier calipers
  • Machine parts to specifications using CNC and manual machine tools, such as lathes, vertical milling machines, horizontal milling machines, and drill presses
  • Perform G-Code/M-Code self-programming
  • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., coolants, solvents) in approved manner (per Material Safety Data Sheets) using personal protective equipment, as required
  • Perform bench work (e.g., drilling, honing, tapping, reaming, deburring) on parts as required
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency and adjust as needed
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated or cooled
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
  • Be available to work overtime when needed to ensure deadlines are met
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and manlifts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. strongly preferred.
  • Individuals must have a minimum 3 years of experience as a machinist in job shop environment.
