Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks a Machinist's Helper to support the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations in maintaining and repairing small engine and pneumatic equipment. The incumbent will assist Machinists, help troubleshoot defective equipment, and ensure parts and materials are tracked for repairs.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time paid experience acquired within the last 10 years as a Machinist's Helper.
• Not less than 1 ½ years of Machinist's Helper experience plus sufficient training from an approved trade or vocational program to equal three years of acceptable experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist Machinist with maintenance and repair of small engine and pneumatic equipment (e.g., tampers, saws, pumps, jackhammers, sled tampers, diaphragm pumps, compressors).
• Assist with inspection, troubleshooting and repair of equipment; disassemble/reassemble as needed.
• Maintain records of materials and parts used for repairs and ensure compliance with EH&S policies.
