What You Will DoYou will work independently and as a member of the Target Fabrication and Engineering Team in the Engineered Materials Group, MST 7. Primarily your job will be receiving fabrication drawings and working with fellow fabrication technicians to develop a fabrication plan. Your job duties will include the design, fabrication, programming assembly/disassembly, testing, and modification of hardware. You will also provide technical research support for critical R&D and operational programs. You will be expected to set up and operate advanced tools to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Use and interpret engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to assist in the development of design factors, conducting operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment, recommending modifications, troubleshooting malfunctions, documenting findings and reporting results. Performing in-process quality control and inspection in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Research Tech 4 ($71,200 - $112,900)- Have Accredited Journeyman Machinist qualification.
- 5+ years of experience machining custom fabrications from drawings
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience with CAD and CAM software
- Work to technical objectives of assignments.
- Work successfully in a team environment and exhibit collaborative behavior.
- Extensive experience machining a variety of materials with lathes, mills, drill presses, and saws, and other industrial apparatus
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Education/Experience Research Tech 4: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with ultra-precision fabrication techniques.
- Experience with CMM inspection machines or other inspection technology.
- Experience in research or national laboratory setting.
- Proven track record of contributing to high-impact R&D projects through design, prototyping, and fabrication.
- Additional 2 years of diverse machining experience to include both manual and CNC set up and operation.
- Possess active Q clearance.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
