HOLT CAT in Irving, TX is hiring a Machinist I for the PSD Engine shop. You will machine cylinder blocks using CNC machines and manual lathes, under direct supervision, and support other machinists while learning technical skills.

The role requires a high school diploma and preferred 1 year of experience with micrometers. You will perform teardown, cleaning, inspection, and assembly, following safety policies and quality standards.

Description

HOLT CAT is hiring a engine shop Machinist 1 for our Irving, Texas location. The Machinist I, demonstrates the ability to perform simple machining repairs and tasks under direct supervision and is often a helper on most jobs while learning and developing technical skills. The Machinist will machine cylinder blocks using CNC machines and manual lathes.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily:

Essential Functions

• Tearing down, clean, inspect and assemble cylinder heads on diesel and natural gas engines.
• Assist other machinists with repair tasks on diesel and natural gas engines.
• Take out broken bolts from diesel and natural gas engine components.
• Clean the shop area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Performs basic and simple machine tasks and repairs
• Assists other Machinists in performing all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair machine parts, equipment, and components
• Supports other Machinists with the work lay out, reading and interpreting blueprints and technical publications, designing, and drawing working sketches
• Assists in other Machinists on all duties and tasks
• Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
• Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in a good, clean, and working order
• Performs tasks under direct supervision and often helps other Machinists on large jobs
• Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
• Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
• Basic knowledge of current computer software and SIS

• Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent, accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program preferred
• Minimum of one year of experience preferred
• Ability to read a micrometer.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Travel:

• Up to 10% travel may be required

Physical Requirements:

• Significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching
• Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity
• Communicates with customers, service managers, and co-workers
• Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
• Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
• Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
• Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment

Work Environment:

• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
• Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity

• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
