Job summary

Silver Wings Aerospace in Homestead/Princeton, FL is seeking a skilled machinist to support our growing MRO operations. You will set up and operate machine tools to fabricate, modify, or repair metal parts, reading blueprints and following tooling instructions.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of machinist experience, familiar with IDG/CSD machining and rework, and knowledge of machine tools, metals, and quality control practices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3–5 years' machinist experience required; 5–10 years preferred.
  • Must read and write English.
  • Flexibility to work beyond 40 hours/week as required.
  • Experience with MRO production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs set up and operation of machine tools to machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces according to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts.
  • Reads blueprint or job orders for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and determines sequence of operations.
  • Positions and secures work pieces in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches.
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
  • Sets up and operates machines and equipment other than machine tools, such as welding machines and flame-cutting equipment.

Overview:

To perform functions assigned in the set up and operation of machine tools applying knowledge of machining methods. Precision instrument makers who fabricates, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

  • Positions and secures work pieces in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches. Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut.
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
  • Sets up and operates machines and equipment other than machine tools, such as welding machines and flame-cutting equipment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • FAA repair station Tool fabrication experience
  • IDG/CSD machining and rework experience
Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three to five years' experience as a machinist required, five to ten years of experience preferred.
  • Must read and write the English language.
  • Flexibility to work beyond 40 hours/week as required.
  • Represents strong familiarity to MRO production processes.
Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Protective Equipment Required:

Potential Hazards:

Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, airborne substances such as glass beads or metal shavings, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working around moving machinery.
