Job summary

Varex Imaging Corporation in Salt Lake City is seeking an experienced Machinist Master Grinder to support the in-house and external production of x-ray tube bearings. You will work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure precision and quality throughout grinding, finishing and assembly processes.

The role requires a 2-year Machining certificate and 10+ years of hands-on grinding experience, along with the ability to read drawings and translate tolerances into machine language.

Qualifications

• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Ability to convert tolerancing from drawings to machine language.
• Experience with grinding, heat treating, finishing, honing and assembly.
• Knowledge of working with diverse materials.

Responsibilities

• Set up and adjust grinding tools, feeds, and speeds for parts.
• Perform heat treating, finishing, grinding, honing, brazing and assembly as required.
• Provide direction and assist with machine set-up for junior machinists.
• Troubleshoot and repair grinding equipment to support quality and production needs.
• Train others in bearing component development, manufacturing and assembly.
• Perform rework and repair on single parts or assemblies.

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Machinist Master Grinder to join our team. The successful candidate will facilitate the in-house or third-party manufacturing of x-ray tube bearings while working closely with engineering and production teams.

Job Description

• Adapt standard tooling, mount cutting tools, set feeds and speeds, and make necessary adjustments.
• Perform heat treating, finishing, grinding, honing, brazing, and mechanical assembly operations as required.
• Provide work direction and assist with machine set-up for junior machinists.
• Troubleshoot and repair grinding equipment to support quality requirements and production demand.
• Train other employees in bearing component development, manufacturing, and assembly.
• Perform rework and repair single parts or complete assemblies

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge

• 4 years of concentrated machinist training.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated job planning abilities and knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry.
• Understands how to work with a variety of materials.

Experience Level with Business Tools

• Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.

Education and Experience

• 2-year certificate in Machining with emphasis on grinding.
• Desired 10+ years of hands-on grinding experience producing precision parts.
• Formal training and practical ability to convert tolerancing from manufacturing drawings to machine language.
• Proven ability to lead setup, documentation, process, and procedures for consistently producing x-ray bearings.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving heavy equipment and/or supplies occasionally.
• Reaching above and below the shoulder occasionally.
• Above-average agility and dexterity with the ability to hold, grasp and manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools constantly.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and handle physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching, repetitive motion, or similar activities.
• Work environments includes: moving mechanical parts, repetitive hand motion.
• Travel to offsite training sites. Valid driver's license. (if need on job profile)
