Job Description

U. S. Steel is seeking qualified machinists for our Maintenance department. Demonstrated or documented work experience in the following areas:

• Set up and operate engine lathes, vertical mills, horizontal mills, and key-seater.
• Work from blueprints or sample parts to machine parts to precision tolerances.
• Use machinist and hand tools common to the trade.
• CNC experience is a plus.
• Work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively with other maintenance technicians.
• Work in various plant areas, which may involve environmental conditions such as hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

Responsibilities :

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems and equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, power transmission systems, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment.
• Assist in operating functions as necessary.
• Work at heights and/or in confined spaces if required.
• Operate in various plant areas, with environmental conditions varying accordingly.

Requirements :

• Minimum 1 year of manufacturing and/or industrial experience, including relevant military experience, or equivalent education. Experience in hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, power transmission, welding, pipefitting, structural repair, or diesel mechanic is preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work 8-hour rotating shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
• Overtime as needed.
• Adherence to safety procedures, including wearing appropriate protective gear.
• Punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction.
• Must pass written and hands-on Machinist tests.
