Description

Schedule:2nd or 3rd shift

Rate: $30+ per hour

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
  • May perform any other work-related functions as deemed necessary and appropriate by immediate supervisor

Core Qualifications:

  • 2 year technical school or 2 years completion of in-company training program
  • Company training as required
  • Should have good knowledge of materials, feeds and speeds
  • Should be able to make basic set-ups from scratch. Including jaw selection & boring of, and proving out of basic programs
  • Should be able to run multiple machine groups i.e. small lathes and small mills
  • Close attention and care is required to prevent damage to complex machine tools or costly metals
  • Able to perform this jobs duties with or without reasonable accommodations

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or completion of in-company, three-year training program
  • Three or more years of experience as a fully qualified machinist

Other:

  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications and produce precision work
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding
  • Must be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skills
  • Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy
  • Works well meeting multiple deadlines with the ability to deliver on time
