Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. seeks a skilled CNC Machinist (Journeyman) to support the Navy systems plant in York, PA. The role involves planning, fabricating, and assembling complex piping and pressure vessel components using CNC and conventional welding, with emphasis on precision and quality.

You will work on ferrous and nonferrous metals and operate various mills and lathes to meet tight tolerances. Location: York, PA Navy Systems Plant. Shift: 2nd Shift, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read shop prints, mathematics, handbook formulas, precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of N/C controlled machines and shop practices equivalent to 1–2 years tradestraining.
  • Ability to setup and operate tape controlled milling and drilling machines for all specified operations.
  • U.S. citizen; Journeyman's Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Read drawings and process sheets; set up and operate CNC/milling equipment.
  • Perform fixture changeovers and loading/unloading of production parts; on-line inspection and data input.
  • Maintain tooling and backups; monitor control messages and take corrective actions.
  • Perform housekeeping and PM tasks; use precision measuring instruments for quality checks.

Job description

We are seeking a CNC Machinist (Journeyman) to join our federal team at our York, PA location. We’re keeping the Navy cool. Literally. Our team at the Grantley Plant custom designs, develops and manufactures complex chilled water HVAC and refrigeration equipment for Navy vessels around the world. The job consists of performing duties required to plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, fit, braze tubing, thread, weld complex piping, system components and weld coded, and noncoded pressure vessel assemblies and subassemblies, working with ferrous, nonferrous metals, using conventional or automatic submerged arc welding and difficult positions of stick, tig, and manual arc welding of Navy equipment.

Location: York, PA Navy Systems Plant
Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday-Friday (2pm - 10pm)
Pay: $43.31 per hour, plus $2.00/hour shift differential
Union: This is a bargaining unit (union) position.

Responsibilities
  • Use tool preset machine, precision measuring instruments, hand and hand power tools, deburr tools and appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Work from drawings, process sheets, specifications, tape program, instructions, or visual display units.
  • Perform fixture change-overs, loading and unloading of production parts, on-line piece parts inspection and manual data input to insure specified finishes, tolerances.
  • Maintain tooling and backup tooling (where necessary).
  • Monitor control messages and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Perform utility functions to maintain process.
  • Will perform housekeeping and deburr internal to machining operations.
  • Fills out PM check lists and may assist in the PM of the machine.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, hand tools, tool setting equipment, appropriate material handling equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to read shop prints, mathematics, handbook formulas, precision measuring instrument, process sheets, program tapes.
  • Knowledge of N/C controlled machines and shop practices equivalent to 1 to 2 years trades training.
  • Ability to setup and operate any tape of tape controlled milling and frilling machines for all specified machining operations. Judgment required to plan, perform, make general decisions within prescribed quality, tolerance, limitations.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical effort working continuously with light weight or frequently with average weight materials
  • U.S. citizen
  • This position requires proof of a Journeyman's Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with set-up and operation of CNC machines, preferably with Horizontal Boring Mills, SNK, and Mori Seiki.
