Job summary

RTX Windsor Locks facility in Connecticut is seeking a skilled machinist to set up and operate conventional and CNC equipment to manufacture environmental control system parts. You will ensure precision, quality, and safety as you work with various tools and perform bench operations.

Responsibilities include bench testing, documentation, inventory control, and collaboration with suppliers to maintain production flow. This is a 3rd shift position with training on earlier shifts if needed.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience with setup and operating a variety of machine tools, such as lathes (manual), milling machines (manual), to machine precision components per specifications
  • Experience with manual machining and reading blueprints or technical drawings
  • GD&T principles interpretation in manufacturing or inspection environment

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and operate a variety of conventional and CNC/NC equipment to perform machining operations to established methods and procedures.
  • Set-up and perform bench assembly, pressure, leakage, and spin balance tests.
  • Prepare and perform bench operations such as hand polishing, grit blasting, shop peening, deburring, tumbling, etching and grinding.
  • Set-up and operate ovens for drying, aging and curing product.
  • Prepare product for welding.
  • Receive, unload, check, record, prepare, inventory, store, disburse and deliver a variety of materials, products and equipment.
  • Maintain rough stores, cribs, gage cabinets, and point of use storage areas.
  • Check work visually and dimensionally using required documentation to verify configurations, quality and identify nonconformance from workmanship.

Operate machinery, perform subassembly, prep components for welding, and conduct inspections to manufacture environmental control system parts—all while ensuring workflow efficiency and strict adherence to environmental, health, and safety protocols.

What You Will Do:
  • Set-up and operate a variety of conventional and CNC/NC equipment to perform machining operations to established methods and procedures.

  • Set-up and perform bench assembly, pressure, leakage, and spin balance tests.

  • Maintain rough stores, cribs, gage cabinets, and point of use storage areas. Order, organize and store such items as supplies, materials, chemicals and tools.

  • Check work visually and dimensionally using required documentation to verify configurations, quality and identify nonconformance from workmanship of self and others.

  • Participate in review, analysis and ordering of purchased parts and materials to ensure appropriate inventory levels. Communicate with suppliers on delivery and quality concerns.

  • Review open purchased and shop requirements. Review regularly with internal suppliers and purchasing. Coordinate and expedite deliveries as required.

  • Process product for fluorescent and magnetic penetrant inspection.Read and analyze results.

  • Check calibration of gages, instruments, and equipment in accordance with established procedures. Perform temperature uniformity surveys. Record and document as required.

  • Prepare test pieces and micros using equipment such as grinders, cutters, sanders, polishers and mounting presses.

  • Mix and apply bonding agents, coatings and chemicals.

  • Perform periodic maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating fixtures and equipment, adding fluids, changing filters and tightening fasteners.

  • Participate in audits of processes, procedures and work areas.

  • Use computers and office equipment to record and process transactions.

  • Utilize and maintain all necessary documentation such as logs, reports, charts, sampling plans, statistical process control records, and nonconformance documents.

  • Instruct fellow employees in the proper performance of duties.

  • Utilize statistical methods to monitor process control and capability. Use data to investigate areas for potential process improvement.

  • Improve processes and solve problems in cooperation with fellow employees and technical support.

  • Move parts and materials to designated locations in accordance with material flow procedures, and initiate follow-up lists.

  • Keep equipment and surroundings neat, clean and organized.

  • Perform related duties as required within the scope of this job function.

  • Work from operation sheets, drawings, shop travelers, and other written or verbal instructions.

  • Use a variety of measuring instruments such as verniers, and micrometers.

  • May be required to pass company required certifications such as industrial power equipment.

  • 3rd Shift 11:00 pm – 7:00 am Monday – Friday

  • Training may take place on 1st or 2nd Shift for 2 months or more.
