Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Machinist III for our Manning, South Carolina facility. This onsite role requires five days in the office weekly and involves fabricating complex machined components from blueprints and diagrams, while ensuring conformance to exacting tolerances.

You will program CNC tools and support prototype work with design engineers. Ideal candidates bring a high school diploma or better, 4 years of relevant experience or an associate degree in Machine Tool

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 4 years of experience or an associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology
• Excellent knowledge of G and M Codes, AutoCAD, FeatureCam, and/or MasterCam
• Know the working qualities of several materials including aluminum, steel, copper, brass, other metals, plastics and exotics

Responsibilities

• Work from blueprints, rough sketches, production diagrams, engineering drawings and verbal instructions to fabricate a variety of complex machined components.
• Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
• Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
• Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools.
• Determine operating methods and sequences; lay out, set up and fabricates precision parts, tooling and fixtures to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
• May support prototype development activities, working with design engineers and mechanical designers on the design feasibility of prototype machine parts and assemblies relative to form, fit and function.
• Make complex shop calculations to layout difficult patterns and determine tooling feeds and speeds.
• Inspects work for conformance to specifications.
• May prepare recommendations for improvements in methods or processes relative to improved productivity and quality.
• Provide technical guidance related to the operations of specialized machine tools and related equipment to other machinists.
