Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company seeks a Machinist III for its Manning, South Carolina facility. The role covers set-up and operation of a wide range of machine tools to produce precision parts, with advanced knowledge of mechanics, math, materials, and machining procedures.

Reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Supervisor, this onsite position requires five days in the office weekly and involves prototyping support, toolpath programming, and strict adherence to specifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or associate degree in Machine Tool Technology.
• 4 years of experience or an associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology.
• Excellent knowledge of G and M Codes, AutoCAD, FeatureCam, and MasterCam.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate complex machined components from blueprints, sketches, diagrams, or verbal instructions.
• Measure and inspect finished parts using precision instruments to ensure conformance to specs.
• Set up and operate basic or specialized machine tools for precision machining operations.
• Program CNC tools and equipment including NC machines.
• Layout and fabricate parts, tooling and fixtures to exact tolerances.
• Collaborate with design engineers on prototype feasibility and assembly layouts.
• Perform complex shop calculations for tooling feeds and speeds.
• Inspect work for quality and suggest process improvements.
• Provide technical guidance to fellow machinists on operations of machine tools.

About The Role

As a Machinist III you will perform non-repetitive tasks of complex and difficult nature involving the set-up and operation of a wide variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This role requires advanced application of knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to fabricate or modify parts to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines.

You will report to the Senior Manufacturing Supervisor and be located at our facility in Manning, South Carolina. This is an onsite position that will require 5 days in office per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Work from blueprints, rough sketches, production diagrams, engineering drawings and verbal instructions to fabricate a variety of complex machined components.
• Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
• Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
• Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools.
• Determine operating methods and sequences; lay out, set up and fabricate precision parts, tooling and fixtures to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
• May support prototype development activities, working with design engineers and mechanical designers on the design feasibility of prototype machine parts and assemblies relative to form, fit and function.
• Make complex shop calculations to layout difficult patterns and determine tooling feeds and speeds.
• Inspects work for conformance to specifications.
• May prepare recommendations for improvements in methods or processes relative to improved productivity and quality.
• Provide technical guidance related to the operations of specialized machine tools and related equipment to other machinists.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 4 years of experience or an associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology.
• Excellent knowledge of G and M Codes, AutoCAD, FeatureCam, and/or MasterCam.
• Know the working qualities of several materials including aluminum, steel, copper, brass, other metals, plastics and exotics.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $52,832.00 to $65,520.00 per year.
