Job summary

Triumph Airborne Structures in Arkansas is seeking a skilled Machinist to set up, program, and operate CNC and manual equipment for aerospace components. You will read detailed drawings, apply GD&T, and produce tight-tolerance parts using aerospace alloys.

Candidate should have 3–5 years of aerospace machining experience and familiarity with AS9100/FAA quality standards. This role emphasizes safety, documentation, and collaboration with engineering and QA teams.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED; technical program preferred.
  • 3–5 years of precision machining in aerospace or regulated industry.
  • Experience with CNC machining centers (HAAS, Mazak, Okuma or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other precision machining equipment.
  • Interpret aerospace blueprints, drawings, and specs including GD&T.
  • Machine tight-tolerance parts using aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and nickel alloys.
  • Plan and perform setups, tooling selection, and machining operations with minimal supervision.
  • Program and edit CNC code (G/M code) and adjust offsets for precision.
  • Inspect and verify finished parts with micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and CMM as applicable.
  • Document inspection results per AS9100 and internal QC procedures.
  • Support tooling, fixtures, and jigs used in aircraft component manufacturing or MRO.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA, EASA, and internal safety/quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, QA, and production to resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and adhere to 5S and safety policies.

Description

The Skilled Machinist is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and modifying precision components used in aerospace applications. This position requires advanced knowledge of machining processes, materials, and aerospace quality standards to ensure all parts meet engineering specifications, FAA, and AS9100 requirements. The machinist will set up, program, and operate both CNC and manual equipment to produce high-quality, tight-tolerance parts in support of production and maintenance operations.

  • § Set up and operate CNC and manual milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other precision machinin equipment
  • § Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications including GD&T.
  • § Machine tight-tolerance parts using aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and nickel alloys.
  • § Plan and perform setups, tooling selection, and machining operations with minimal supervision.
  • § Program and edit CNC code (G/M code) and adjust offsets to ensure precision dimensions.
  • § Inspect and verify finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and CMM (as applicable).
  • § Document inspection results per AS9100 and internal quality control procedures.
  • § Support the fabrication and repair of tooling, fixtures, and jigs used in aircraft component manufacturing or MRO operations.
  • § Ensure compliance with all FAA, EASA, and internal safety and quality requirements.
  • § Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues and recommend process improvements.
  • § Maintain clean, organized work areas and adhere to all 5S and safety policies.
Qualifications
Education:
  • o High school diploma or GED required.
  • o Completion of an accredited machinist or aerospace manufacturing technical program preferred.
Experience:
  • o 3-5 years of precision machining experience in aerospace or a similar regulated industry.
  • o Hands-on experience with CNC machining centers (HAAS, Mazak, Okuma, or similar).
  • o Familiarity with AS9100 and FAA Part 145 repair station quality standards a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
  • o Strong understanding of aerospace materials, tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • o Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and process specifications.
  • o Skilled in setup, operation, and troubleshooting of both CNC and manual equipment.
  • o Working knowledge of GD&T and machining to aerospace tolerances.
