Job description

Position Title: Machinist II

Department: Manufacturing

Location: Houston, TX

Reports To: Machine Shop Manager

Classification: Non-Exempt


Position Summary:

Responsible for setting up, running, editing, and programming CNC equipment. Maintains work area and equipment. Follows quality requirements for machined parts. May assist with other duties as required.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, etc.
  • Use general QC equipment
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T
  • Edit and program using G codes
  • Perform set-ups on CNC machines
  • Knowledge of optimal tooling selection, feed, and speed calculation
  • Promote Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement projects
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned

Required Education:

  • High School diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Trade school is preferred.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 5-7+ years as a CNC machinist primarily with FANUC or MAZAK controls
  • Strong math skills
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, sit, and lift to 40 pounds for 8 to 12 hours per day
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and/or overtime if required

  • Natural or corrected hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Capable of properly using standard office equipment, including phone, and a computer with keyboard.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Includes hard hat, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, mask, etc.
