Job description

Position Summary

TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company is seeking an experienced Machinist II to perform precision machining operations on medium to large components. This position is responsible for machining parts to close tolerances using mills, lathes, boring mills, grinders, and related equipment.

The Machinist II will work with limited supervision, perform complex machining and mechanical problem-solving, interpret engineering drawings, troubleshoot machine code and programs, and support continuous improvement within the machining operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform close-tolerance machining and assembly on medium to large components.
  • Set up and operate horizontal and vertical boring mills, conventional and CNC mills and lathes, and other machining equipment.
  • Operate multiple machines, including Vertical Turning Lathes and Horizontal Boring Mills.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and troubleshoot machine code and CNC programs.
  • Apply CNC programming knowledge to machining operations and develop or edit machining programs as needed.
  • Solve complex mechanical and machining problems with limited supervision.
  • Design, fabricate, and utilize jigs and fixtures for non-standard machining processes.
  • Understand product designs and manufacturing processes to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Identify requirements that fall outside normal standards and recommend product or process improvements.
  • Meet or exceed established standard job times while understanding feed speeds and material removal processes.
  • Operate overhead cranes and perform lifts safely.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
  • Perform quality work in accordance with customer and TECO-Westinghouse standards.
  • Assist and train team members in developing machining skills and techniques.
  • Set a high standard of excellence for peers through daily work practices.
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable ISO 9001 standards.
  • Demonstrate TECO-Westinghouse's standards of excellence, including Pride, Desire, Teamwork, Attention to Detail, and Follow-Through.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience as a Machinist or 5–8 years of related mechanical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in CNC programming, including extensive training and hands-on experience.
  • Technical school training is preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex machining and mechanical problems.
  • Above-average reading and math skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple and frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot machine code and CNC programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of basic mathematics, including whole numbers and decimals.
  • Ability to apply trigonometric concepts used in machining.
Certifications

No certifications or licenses are required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires regular standing and the use of hands, fingers, arms, and feet. The employee may be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and walk. The position requires the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions, chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, electrical hazards, vibration, and high noise levels.
