What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Machinist with some CNC programming, reporting to Integration Engineering Technical Manager. Tool & Die Maker/Prototype Machinist, Manual Machinist, CNC Machinist/Programmer. Each of the roles and their respective job positions require the individual to work closely with mechanical, process, robotics, and control engineers, maintenance technicians, production managers, and production associates to support their tooling and production needs throughout all of Tesla’s Departments.

What You’ll Do

  • Machine tight tolerance components and assemblies using manual and/or CNC machine tools to make or modify parts, weldments, and assemblies applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, layout, and good machining procedures.
  • Operate typical machine shop equipment including but not limited to mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, grinders, sanders, and saws.
  • Work with a wide range of materials from hardened tool steels to plastics (i.e., tool steels, pre-hardened steels, stainless steels, low carbon steels, aluminum, plastics, copper, and brass). General shop responsibilities (i.e., help ensure a safe working environment, equipment maintenance and repair, housekeeping duties, organization of shop materials and supplies).
  • Understand and use 3D and 2D CAD/CAM software such as CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, FUSION 360 and AUTOCAD to view and/or extract components from solid model assemblies to generate toolpaths and detailed drawings.
  • Work with minimal supervision with limited detailed drawings or blueprints, must be able to interpret verbal or written instructions and work independently to complete jobs from set up to final inspection.
  • Work closely with managers, engineers, and technicians to produce a wide variety of components, weldments, and assemblies. Have an understanding to take broken equipment and reverse engineer, have the aptitude for field repairs components.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experienced and highly skilled in tool and die making with the ability to design and build custom fixtures and jigs.
  • Strong machine shop experience with all equipment in Machine shop.
  • 5 years minimum experience as a Tool & Die Maker/Prototype Machinist or Manual Machinist or CNC Machinist/Programmer.
  • Experience welding and fabrication with strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly. Welding/Fabrication & sheet metal knowledge is an asset.
  • Good computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Highly motivated, strong work ethic, independent, meticulous attention to detail and able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings.
  • Available to work night shift AWS schedules which includes weekends and some holidays.

Expected Compensation

$32.00 - $48.27/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
