Job Summary

Responsible for inspection, testing, and maintenance of locomotives and rolling stock in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards.

Essential Functions
  • Perform inspections, testing, and repairs on locomotives and components per regulations and standards.
  • Conduct mechanical repairs on drive systems, wheels, suspension, and propulsion components.
  • Diagnose and repair air systems and brake equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and move locomotives as needed.
  • Operate lifting/hoisting equipment and understand diesel engine theory.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and calibrate pressure switches and valves.
  • Maintain proper use of tools and test equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and mechanical repairs.
  • Experience with railroad equipment is a plus.
  • Good visual and hearing acuity; ability to work safely around machinery.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate proficiently.
Preferred Qualifications & Work Environment
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with electrical tools and measurements.
  • Welding and cutting skills preferred.
  • Ability to work in noisy, varied conditions and wear safety gear.
  • Physical ability to bend, stand, climb, and lift loads.
