Job summary

Chipton-Ross is seeking a Machinist 2 for a contract opportunity in Goleta, CA. The ideal candidate will set up and operate manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills, and precision grinders to produce parts within tight tolerances.

The role requires 3+ years of machining experience, proficiency with reading technical drawings and production specs, and the ability to train others on Mill/Lathe setups. Must be a U.S. citizen and capable of standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience with CNC Mills and programming software such as Mastercam, CAMWorks is preferred.
• Experience running manual machines and performing set-ups is required.
• Ability to read and interpret production specs, diagrams, drawings, and technical specifications (English).
• Experience following written set-up instructions and performing unique set-ups.
• Experience fabricating components with non-routine set-ups and tight tolerances.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills and precision grinders to make metal parts to exact tolerances.
• Performs in-process and final part inspections using machinist tools and measuring instruments to ensure quality.
• Calculates dimensions, tooling, feeds and speeds for shop tasks.
• Maintains equipment care and shop cleanliness, and ensures tooling/material readiness.
• Provides training on Mill/Lathe equipment setup, operations, and maintenance.
• Communicates effectively with team and works independently in a dynamic environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Familiarity with CNC Mills and machine programming software (example Mastercam, CAMworks, etc.).
• Must have experience running manual machines and performing set‑ups.
• Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications (English).
• Experience in following written set‑up instructions and /or performing unique set‑ups.
• Experience fabricating component parts where set‑ups are non‑routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain.
• Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods.
• Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Machining experience (3+ years).
• Must be a U.S. citizen.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
• Responsible for quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds;
• Care and maintenance of the equipment.
• Assuring tooling and materials readiness.
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Provide training to others in all aspects of Mill/Lathe equipment setup, operations, and maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

• Experience with Fanuc and HAAS Controllers preferred.
• 4+ years' experience on 3 Axis CNC machines, 4 and 5 Axis is a plus.
• Proficiency in CAM programming with Mastercam preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the workday.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• School must be accredited.

WORK HOURS:

• 9/80 work week. Will possibly drive to Oxnard location, but not often.
