Job summary

Daniel Defense is seeking a Machinist 2 to join its Manufacturing Engineering team. The role builds on Machinist 1 duties with higher proficiency and involves program prove-out and optimization under supervision of programmers and engineers.

The position emphasizes adherence to safety, quality, and productivity standards while contributing to Lean initiatives and environment health and safety requirements. Strong teamwork and commitment to company values are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; typically 4–6 years of prior manufacturing experience or a combination of experience, education, and/or training to sufficiently and successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
• Proficient in multiple competencies relevant to the job.
• Must understand basic programming strategies; ability to interpret machine tool programming languages (G & M codes) to perform troubleshooting and changeovers.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.
• Has knowledge of metalworking tools, work holding, and other common concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
• Teamwork and the ability to cooperate and work proactively with others is a must.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Company Values.

Responsibilities

• Perform all of the essential functions of a Machinist 1.
• Conform to and operate within the framework of all applicable operator work instructions, SOPs, quality, and safety procedures.
• Optimize programs and processes to improve cycle time and increase capability.
• Set up and prove out programs from programmers.
• Maintain proper housekeeping of work area; keep all machines, tools, equipment, and work surfaces free of oil, grease, etc.
• Train machine operators in the performance of their assigned duties.
• Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
• Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
• Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment
• Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.

As a Machinist 2, you will be responsible for the functions outlined below, performing all Machinist 1 functions with increased proficiency and taking on program prove-out and optimization tasks under the supervision of programmers and engineers.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); typically 4–6 years of prior manufacturing experience or a combination of experience, education, and/or training to sufficiently and successfully perform the essential functions of the job. A two-year technical degree or approved apprenticeship in related coursework (i.e., CNC mill or lathe) is a plus.


• Proficient in multiple competencies relevant to the job.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.


• Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the work day.


• Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.


• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
