Job summary

The role requires precise inspection using micrometers/calipers, strict adherence to SOPs, and strong commitment to safety and quality. A high school diploma or GED plus 2–4 years of experience is expected.

  • High school diploma or GED with 2–4 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, machine tool programming languages (G & M codes) and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to interpret programming languages to anticipate machine action and tool offsets.
  • Knowledge of metalworking tools and work holding concepts.
  • Strong teamwork and adherence to company values.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and conform to SOPs, quality, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain clean work area; keep machines and tools free of oil and grease.
  • Operate all machines and processes in the assigned cell.
  • Make offsets, preset tools, and calibrate probes and tool setters.
  • Clear common machine alarms, troubleshoot production issues.
  • Perform repetitive inspection with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators.
  • Assist with training machine operators and support process flow.
  • Support safety, 6S, quality, delivery, and productivity initiatives.

As Machinist 1, you will be responsible for the functions outlined below, maintaining cell productivity by troubleshooting production problems and performing proven setups under the guidance of Manufacturing Engineers and/or Supervisors.

Essential Functions
  • Conform to and operate within the framework of all applicable operator work instructions, SOPs, quality, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of work area; keep all machines, tools, equipment, and work surfaces free of oil, grease, etc.
  • Proficient at the operation of all machines and processes in the assigned cell.
  • Make offsets to tools to produce good parts; preset tools as needed; calibrate probes and tool setter.
  • Clear and correct common machine alarms including Automatic Tool Changer alarms.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues affecting part production or quality.
  • Perform repetitive inspection of parts using precision instruments such as micrometers, height gages, calipers, and indicators.
  • Assist and monitor process flow to meet production requirements set by Cell Supervisor.
  • Assist with training machine operators in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); typically 2–4 years of prior manufacturing experience or a combination of related experience, education, and/or training to sufficiently and successfully perform the essential functions of the job. A two-year technical degree or approved apprenticeship in related coursework (i.e., CNC mill or lathe) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, machine tool programming languages (G & M codes), and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to interpret machine tool programming languages to anticipate machine action, use "Distance to Go", and use feed rate and spindle speed overrides.
  • Has knowledge of metalworking tools, work holding, and other common concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Teamwork and the ability to cooperate and work proactively with others isa must.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Company Values.
  • It is understood employees may be assigned to other departments, functional groups, and/or shifts as deemed necessary by management.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
