Position Summary

We are seeking a Machinist for 1st or 2nd Shift to work out of our Milwaukee Service Center. This role involves setup, adjustment, and operation of various machines such as vertical turning lathes, horizontal milling machines, engine lathes, radial drills, presses, and grinders. The employee will perform machining operations on generator and turbine parts, working from complex engineering drawings and specifications. Moderate supervision is provided, and set-ups may be checked. The employee will also perform inspections and document finished products.

• Operate and adjust machine tools following standard machining practices.
• Perform setups involving aligning and securing large or irregular workpieces.
• Work from instructions with prescribed speeds, feeds, sequences, and tooling, with some variation as needed.
• Grind and adapt tooling for special work requirements.
• Assist in diagnosing and fixing tooling and machine issues.
• Perform basic maintenance on equipment.
• Work from engineering drawings, instruction sheets, and process documents.
• Complete sign-offs and documentation related to work and measurements.
• Use precision measuring instruments to inspect parts.
• Follow all safety and work regulations.
• Take responsibility for quality and customer satisfaction in your work.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Trade or vocational schooling related to machining preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in machine shop practices.
• Ability to apply geometry, algebra, and trigonometry with engineering drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of shop practices and machining fundamentals.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes and lift trucks.
• Judgment for complex setups and tooling choices.
• Understanding of machining practices for generator and turbine parts.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision must include close, distance, and focus adjustment. The role involves standing, walking, and manual handling, with occasional sitting, reaching, climbing, and other physical activities. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, and noise is expected.
