Job summary

MaineGuide in Winthrop, ME is seeking an experienced Machinist/Fabricator to join our in-house shop. The role requires setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes, reading blueprints, and maintaining tight tolerances.

You will work with Haas/Fanuc controls, perform manual machining when needed, and collaborate with engineering to improve processes. The position is full-time, on-site, with benefits and relocation support.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years combined experience as a machinist with both CNC and manual machining
  • Ability to set up and run CNC mills and/or lathes independently
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
  • Proficient with precision measurement tools
  • High school diploma or GED; trade school / apprenticeship preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Responsibilities

  • CNC: Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes (Haas, Fanuc controls preferred)
  • Program, edit and optimize G-code at the control; CAM exp with Mastercam / Fusion 360 a plus
  • Tool offsets, fixture setup and tool selection
  • Maintain tolerances of +/- .001" with precision instruments
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, wear, and surface finish

Minimal Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements
Required:
  • 5+ years combined experience as a machinist with both CNC and manual machining
  • Ability to set up and run CNC mills and/or lathes independently
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
  • Proficient with precision measurement tools
  • High school diploma or GED; trade school / apprenticeship preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Preferred:
  • Experience with Haas, Fanuc, or Mazak controls
  • Experience with Mastercam, Fusion 360, or SolidCAM
  • Experience machining steel, stainless, aluminum and plastics
  • Tool & die, mold making, or prototype experience
  • Valid journeyman machinist license or technical certificate
Duties and Responsibilities
CNC Machining:
  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes (Haas, Fanuc controls preferred)
  • Program, edit, and optimize G-code at the control - basic CAM experience with Mastercam / Fusion 360 a plus
  • Perform tool selection, offsets, and fixture setup
  • Maintain tolerances of +/-.001" and verify with precision measuring instruments
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, tool wear, and surface finish problems
Manual Machining:
  • Operate manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses for prototype work, secondary ops, and repair jobs
  • Fabricate custom tooling, fixtures, and jigs as needed
  • Perform hand deburring, fitting, and assembly
General Shop:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings
  • Perform first-article inspection and in-process QC using mics, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and CMM
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality to improve processes and reduce setup times
  • Document jobs and maintain tooling inventory

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
