Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machining centers and related equipment to production standards.
  • Perform processes with SPC to ensure final product quality.
  • Maintain cell/equipment, perform system checks per procedures.
  • Communicate issues promptly and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Train or be trained as needed; record keeping per policy.
  • Work unsupervised and transfer legacy knowledge across shifts.

Job description

Machinist — UAS FLEX CELL MACHINIST/ SMALL COMPUTER OPERATOR I
  • Employee(s) will be transferred to other positions during slack periods and/or decreased workload.
  • Must be able to perform assigned work in a safety conscious manner with regard to self and others working in the cell.
  • Perform assigned cleaning required to maintain individual's work area in a clean condition.
  • Perform other duties inherently required of the job classification.
  • Set‑up and operate machining centers, related equipment and inspection systems (including NDI training) to produce product within company processes and procedures.
  • Perform assigned work to specified process including statistical process control to ensure final product quality.
  • Be familiar with and work within applicable company procedures and work instructions relative to job function.
  • Communicate on a timely basis to all relevant personnel any issues found during the daily processing of product and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Train or be trained as needed.
  • Record keeping as required.
  • Works with others across payrolls, functions, and shifts to solve problems in a timely manner (Real Time).
  • Properly maintain cell/equipment and perform all required system checks in accordance with applicable processing procedures and/or work instructions.
  • Capable to work unsupervised in their area.
  • Ensure “legacy” knowledge transfer.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must pass the Production Inspection Test.
  • Must pass the Practical Test.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of product validation in this cell.
  • Must pass Lycoming Inspection Eye test, obtain and maintain certifications.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate technical information.
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of the selection of tools and fixtures, cutting tool parameters, and machining techniques.
  • Understand the operation of shop floor computers.
  • Understand Quality principles, gauging methods, and inspection techniques.
  • Capability to qualify, test, certify every three years to obtain and maintain certification to perform Level II NDI to the applicable acceptance criteria to assure product meets drawing requirements.
  • Have the personal and professional integrity and a responsible attitude to ensure that all manufacturing, engineering, and quality requirements have been completed to assure part compliance before final acceptance of product.
  • Have a positive attitude with a flexible approach to cell operation and a commitment to achieving departmental objectives.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in “general” machining and 2 years CNC machining could be concurrent (i.e., milling, drilling, turning) or Associate’s Degree (i.e., Tool Making Technology or Automated Manufacturing) or equivalent manufacturing base degree including practical experience on machine tools, and must be able to troubleshoot, determine cause of malfunction and make necessary adjustments to maintain positive control of process and equipment.
  • Assist Tool Design, as needed, in new fixture, program proofing and tooling setups, maintain and monitor process, program readouts, and setup during the period of operation for required quality of parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret complicated blueprints, and to work from operations sheets, processes, specification, manuals, and routings.
  • Ability to use shop mathematics handbook formulas and a variety of precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and follow‑up skills.
  • Ability to articulate in both written and spoken word.
  • Forklift license if required.

Good research and documentation skills.
